Competent drawing skills are recommended.

This three day workshop over three consecutive weeks will offer the chance to practice a wonderful traditional oil painting technique. It is an approach that exploits the slow drying qualities of oil paints. In the first session, you will be toning your painting surface with one mid range value of color. Then with a combination of brushes and rags, light tones are created by wiping away the paint to expose the white of the canvas. If too much paint is removed or more detail is needed, more paint can be added back in. Your composition is completely developed and then left to dry. It is a way of creating a detailed monochromatic underpainting so you can concentrate on color application in subsequent painting sessions.

Bring your full painting kit, plus two stretched canvases, one 9X12 and one 14X18. Make sure you have a tube of Burnt Sienna.
