Wabi Sabi, Nature and Collage: A 3-Day Workshop with Donna Watson, April 2-4

Wabi Sabi, Nature and Collage: A 3-Day Workshop with Donna Watson, April 2-4

Wabi Sabi is a Japanese aesthetic.  This Japanese aesthetic is a beauty of things imperfect, incomplete and impermanent…rustic, earthy, simple, textured, and organic.  Wabi Sabi is deeply connected to nature, the passage of time and cycle of life and seasons.

On the first morning, everyone will go out into nature (called forest bathing) to collect leaves, sticks, moss, lichen, seeds… and are even invited to bring nature collections from home.  They will then hand paint Japanese washi (provided by the instructor) papers using nature as stencils to mimic the patterns and textures found outside.  They can also use rubber stamps, stamping tools, and stencils.

On the second day, the artist will learn simple compositions and design elements to create collages.

On the third day, they can continue with collage or templates and tag board will be provided to make a box with a lid to hold some of their nature collections as well as an accordion style book, with tags.  Our connection to nature will be complete.
