Transferring a Sketch or Photo with Chris Witkowski, March 2

Transferring a Sketch or Photo with Chris Witkowski, March 2

Transferring a Sketch or Photo for painters working in Oil or Acrylics.

The Old Masters made their life easier by developing methods of transferring their sketches to walls for fresco, and to canvas and board for paintings. Some, like Vermeer, also used the Camera Obscura to help compose their work. It was a lot of work. I think they would have been absolutely thrilled with the tools of modern technology and would have fully embraced them! In the morning we will cover the history and methods of transferring artwork before learning how to execute a very basic method. After lunch we will explore some of the extremely helpful tools that Photoshop and Photoshop Elements offers. I’ll have both my laptop and desktop available for teaching purposes. If you have either Photoshop or PS Elements on your laptop (all of the versions back to the originals have these particular tools), please bring it with some photos or uploaded sketches that you would like to layout for transfer. For our morning session, bring a couple of sketches or printed photos to transfer that will fit on an 8.5X11 sheet of paper or 8X10 canvas panel. Nothing too complex.
