Time to Paint

 “I want to paint…”

  • Larger

  • Looser

  • More regularly

  • With more ease and less agony

Do you envision a time in the future when you will paint the way you want to paint? You know the time is now, but still can’t get past the idea of “eventually I will” paint like I want to paint. In this workshop we will play with time as an element of the painting process. We will warm up with speed painting (cover the whole page in 45 seconds), timed drawings (two-minutes to make a statement), and five-minute paintings. We will graduate to longer “poses” for larger works, and experiment with layering one timed process over another.

I have found that given a limited time to create a compelling image or visual statement, the brain has to get out of the way, and my intuitive visual response kicks in more quickly. This workshop is an opportunity to give your visual response a workout (and your brain a rest). You will also have time to work on the images generated by the timed experiments, and see how the exercises have affected the fluidity of your process.
