“The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.” – Dorothea Lange

“Your eye must see a composition or an expression that life itself offers you, and you must know with intuition when to click the camera.” – Henri Cartier-Bresson

Tell your friends to take this class and learn how to create photographs that you are proud of! Seeing the ordinary world clearly is a source of raw material and inspiration when you work with your camera. This workshop is about utilizing your powers of observation. Try to see everyday objects/subjects with an “artistic eye.” We will discuss elements of design and basic principles of design and learn how to apply them to each of your compositions. Each week we will explore a few of these concepts at a time. Students will get photos printed for sharing and discussion. Beginners welcome!

This workshop will meet once a week for five weeks. The third week will be a field trip photographing in Port Townsend.

Supplies: Manual digital or film camera and three-ring binder.
