Creating pleasing greens is a real challenge for artists in any media. Of course painters have the option of using greens straight from a tube, but you’ll get better and more natural greens if you mix them up yourself. In this 3 day workshop, you will learn about organic and inorganic green pigments, see examples of paintings using a full range of greens and most importantly learn how to mix greens using various blues and yellows.

Day One: In the morning there will be a lecture and demonstration of mixing greens. After a lunch break, you’ll create your own color swatches by mixing the recommended blues and yellows. If time allows, you will start a painting working from provided imagery that will be heavy on greens ranging from warm to cool.

Day Two: Class will continue to work on the painting from the previous day or start a second one for those speedy painters. You are welcome to work from your own reference photos for your second painting, as long as it has a full range of greens from warm to cool. Bring in a selection and we’ll choose the best.

Day Three: Another day of painting with greens, working towards finishing your paintings. Feel free to bring along whatever colors you have but the following are required: Yellows: indian yellow, cadmium yellow medium, cadmium yellow light, yellow ochre Blues: ultramarine blue, prussian blue Ivory or Mars black

Materials fee of $10 for toned canvas pad, made payable to instructor on the first day of class.
