Botanical Alchemy: An Eco-Dye Workshop with Linda Okazaki & Barbara Ramsey, April 6 & 7

240.00

SATURDAY & SUNDAY, APRIL 6 & 7, 9 AM- 4 PM

During this experiential workshop team-taught by two artists, one primarily a painter and the other a fiber artist, students will have the benefit of both their perspectives on form, color, and pattern. The approach will be largely informal and experimental.

This weekend workshop has two sequential aspects:

1) First day: eco dye/botanical printing on fabric.

2) Second day: altering botanical prints with fabric paint, freehand and with stencils.
This class is for students at all levels. Those new to eco dyeing on fabric will learn basic "how-to” techniques, while experienced eco dyers will have the opportunity to deepen their design skills and learn to enhance the colors and shapes that nature provides. No previous experience with either dyeing or painting required. By the end of the second day, most students will have at least 6 pieces of fabric dyed and/or painted.

Materials Fee:

TWO options: For participants who prefer to bring their own fabric: $10 materials fee in cash or check made payable to Barbara Ramsey on the first day of the workshop. You will need to bring at least 6 pieces. Each piece needs to be at least 15” wide and at least 40” long and must be 100% wool, silk, or cotton (the 6 pieces can be any assortment of the above). The fabric needs to be solid white, cream, or very light colored. Used 100% cotton sheets (go to the Goodwill!) are fabulous. All new fabric must be washed in detergent prior to class to remove sizing.

For participants who prefer to have all materials provided: $30 materials fee in cash or check made payable to Barbara Ramsey on the first day of the workshop.
