Art Cloth Supply List
1. Procion Fiber Reactive dyes
2. Fabric paint
3. 4 or more yards of PFD (prepared for dyeing) fabric
Sturdy “rubber” gloves. I bring latex gloves for you.
Particulate mask - a cheap one. Respirator not necessary
FABRIC. We will make most of the technique samples from 12” squares of PFD (prepared for dyeing) fabric. I dye frequently with Pimatex cotton and highly recommend it. There are many other natural fabrics that dye well with fiber reactive dyes and now is a good time to experiment. You can try rayon, silk or linen. Bamboo mixed with cotton also takes the dye nicely. I suggest bringing at least 2 yards of Pimatex cotton and augment your supply of fabric with other natural fibers if you are curious about using them.
DYES. I will bring many dyes for experimentation. However, you should bring at least 4 colors of dyes that you like and that will compliment each other Such as blue, purple, lavender and magenta. Or loden green, marigold, golden brown and forest green. Or even red, orange, golden yellow and burgundy.
FABRIC PAINT. Many techniques will require fabric paint. Bring any that you have at home and additional colors that will work with your palette of dyes. I use Jacquard medium consistency textile paints and Versatex paints. Speedball screen printing inks are also wonderful. In addition, ProChem makes their own line of fabric paints and dyes, many of them complex, subtle colors in a creamy mix.
I will provide dye auxiliary chemicals (soda ash, urea, glauber salt, discharge paste, etc.), pots, stir rods, measuring spoons, bowls, rubber bands, etc. Also I will bring a variety of my dyes and paints for your use.
In addition, I will buy 8” x 10” printing screens and squeezes for purchase in class at cost. These screens will be used for Deconstructed Printing on fabric.
In addition to the supply list, there is a $30 supply fee payable at our first class.
